The Brief

We were approached by Fatshark to work on the release of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 for Xbox, PS4 and Steam in the US market. Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a 4-player co-op action game set in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world. Sequel to the critically acclaimed Vermintide, Vermintide 2 was the latest instalment in a franchise best known for its intense and bloody first-person melee combat. Fatshark wanted to achieve a positive return on ad spend whilst focused on user acquisition in the US.

The Game Plan

In order to track and attribute campaigns to game sales, we integrated a specialised SDK tracking system that allowed us to monitor performance of our paid media, allowing us to scale up and optimize to achieve a positive ROAS. We ran highly engaging video and banner campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and DV360 to capitalise on the buzz around the game and nurture top funnel audiences into game purchasers. Constantly monitoring audience segments using custom URL parameters, we were able to manually optimise audience interests/behaviours based on game sales and ROAS.

To support the campaign, our creative studio made highly engaging banners and video trailers to suit each channel individually. We used existing assets to create engaging and compelling ads on all channels.

 

 

The Results

  • ROAS: 1.58:1 (158%)
  • Over 11 million impressions
  • Over 500k video views on YouTube
  • Vermintide 2 sold over 500k copies in the first four days of PC release. It had sold over 1m copies four weeks after the PC release, and by the end of 2019 it had reached 2 million copies sold
